You can use this gas mileage calculator to figure out how much you'll spend on fuel when driving your car. To use this calculator, you'll need to know your odometer readings, fuel consumed, and the price of fuel. The calculator provides you with the fuel mileage achieved (MPG), fuel cost per mile, as well as the fuel cost per month and year.

Calculator Definitions

The variables used in our online calculator are defined in detail below, including how to interpret the results.

Odometer Reading: Start and Finish

These are the initial and final odometer readings taken from the vehicle when filling the car with gasoline.

Gasoline Used (Gallons)

This is the number of gallons of gasoline consumed when refueling between the two consecutive odometer readings indicated earlier. If paid by credit card, this information should appear on the receipt provided by the gasoline pump.

Price of Fuel (Dollars / Gallon)

This is the price paid for gasoline. Once again, this information can be found on the receipt received when filling up the car's fuel tank.

Miles Driven Per Year (Miles)

This value is the number of miles you anticipate driving the car each year. This number is used to calculate the monthly and annual fuel costs.

Miles Traveled (Miles)

This figure is simply the number of miles driven between refueling. It is the difference between the starting and final odometer readings.

Fuel Mileage (Miles per Gallon)

The miles per gallon, or MPG, are calculated by taking the miles traveled and dividing it by the gallons of gasoline consumed to travel that same distance.

Fuel Cost (Cents per Mile)

The fuel cost, stated in terms of cents per mile, is found by taking the MPG determined in the prior step and dividing it by the price of fuel.

Fuel Cost per Month and Year ($)

This value is the expense associated with driving the vehicle each month or year. The two inputs required to calculate these values are the miles driven each year and the fuel cost stated in terms of cents per mile driven.
