Definition
The term diversity is used to describe the differences in people due to individual characteristics such as age, religion, gender, ethnic background, sexual orientation, and race.
Explanation
Companies today have grown to value diversity in the workforce, and demonstrate this by creating a work environment where mutual respect of the similarities and differences is appreciated and embraced. A workplace where diverse people are employed is one where individuals, and teams, can leverage their differences to foster creativity, and apply those individual talents, skills, and experiences to successfully achieve business objectives.
Companies often use diversity training to increase cultural awareness among employees. These programs are also used to educate managers about situations that could involve civil rights violations, inclusion in the work place, and the value of building diverse teams.
