Definition

The term tactical leadership skill is used to describe the ability of a leader to use past experiences to understand what specific actions need to be taken to achieve the organization's goals.

Explanation

Leaders can be both strategic as well as tactical. Strategies are more forward looking as they describe the overall plan or objective of the leader. They can be a series of actions or methods used to achieve an objective. Tactics are the individual actions deployed to implement a strategy. Tactical leadership is the concept of taking one's leadership experiences, and making effective use of them in a workplace setting. Tactical leadership also involves the application of new ideas to solve old problems. The tactical leader uses the skills they have learned to train, and prepare, subordinates to accomplish goals and objectives.
